For the past two days, I’ve had the pleasure and privilege of attending the Global Forum 2024 in London, UK. I listened to some of the best speakers in the field and meet with some great peers doing the hard work in and out of their global organizations. So much to share with my team when I get back. But for now I soak in the gems gifted to me. There is still a lot of work to do, but knowing we are a collective of talented individuals that journey together makes it all worth it.

Today is International Day Against hom*ophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia. As a proud and honoured partner, on behalf of Scotiabank, Gloria Leppik and myself were able to stand and celebrate with Pride at Work Canada / Fierté au travail Canada and witness Jade Pichette open the Toronto Stock Exchange this morning. Being able to share a moment of recognition of this day and it’s importance towards true inclusion for all is a privilege that will not be taken lightly. Together, let’s continue to stand in solidarity with the entire 2SLGBTQIA+ community, today and every day.#IDAHOBIT

It’s time to reimagine what success could look like. It’s often been said that it’s lonely at the top and now there’s new research to prove it. And the research points to a workplace crisis, a mental health crisis and a pipeline crisis for women. It’s not that so many women are feeling lonely at their job, but they feel lonely because of their job.Not only is it lonely at the top, but it’s less diverse, too. There’s a generation of women who are looking up the ladder at the women ahead of them and seeing what they’ve had to sacrifice, seeing how they’ve had to compartmentalize and they’re like, ‘no, thank you. I’m opting out of that! It’s time to reimagine what success could look like …. for women!!!

53% of women say they're lonely at work and it only gets worse the higher they climb. Here's what can help fortune.com

There are days when it all feels like too much. And then there are days days when your cup is filled and you remember that it will ALWAYS be worth it. April 17th was one of those cup overflowth days for me and so many as we attended and actively participated in Pride at Work Canada / Fierté au travail Canada (PaWC) SPARK! It is named such because of the fire it reminds you that we all have to build a more inclusive and empathetic society - well in my opinion that’s why 😜So grateful for the community that PaWC continues to build and for the open hearts, minds and invitation to be part of their story.

The eight-day Jewish holiday of Passover is celebrated in the early spring, from the 15th through the 22nd of the Hebrew month of Nissan, April 22 - 30, 2024. Passover (Pesach) commemorates the emancipation of the Israelites from slavery in ancient Egypt. Pesach is observed by avoiding leaven, and highlighted by the Seder meals that include four cups of wine, eating matzah and bitter herbs, and retelling the story of the Exodus. In Hebrew it is known as Pesach (which means “to pass over”), because God passed over the Jewish homes when killing the Egyptian firstborn on the very first Passover eve.To my friends and colleagues celebrating this wonderful time of year, Chag Sameach!

What Is Passover (Pesach)? - Passover 2024 will be celebrated from April 22-30 chabad.org

I’m adding this disclaimer because the comments I’ve gotten are wonderful but this is not MY story. Instead I am sharing someone else’s experience (with their permission); let’s keep the discussion going. There is an email that was sent asking for clarity from one peer to another. Instead of saying ‘I am unclear about this situation, can I set up time for us to walk through’ the email reads ‘how did YOU come to this decision? I was not made aware of your decision and why you made it; why are you letting others ….’ And it keeps going on in this tone in multiple email threads. When people think about racism and hom*ophobia in the workplace, they likely think about overt violence or slurs. But microaggressions can be just as harmful for racialized and other marginalized women at work. There several kinds of microaggressions,(I actually just call them Aggressions) including others taking credit for their ideas, having their judgment questioned (example provided above), being mistaken for someone else of the same race or having others comment on their appearance or emotional state. The workplace is not psychologically safe when these things happen. So what can organizations do? Why do some have to pay the highest tax/toll at worker?
