B4 WINSTON-SALEM JOURNAL Friday, April 29, 2005 YADKINVILLE Mr. Fonzo Jack Adams, 82, of Yadkinville a loving husband, father and grandfather, died Thursday, April 27, 2005, at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Adams was born Feb. 10, 1923, in Yadkin County to Carl and Briannis "Clinton" Willard Adams.
Jack was retired from Chatham Manufacturing and was a member of Longtown United Methodist Church, where he served as Sunday school superintendent, a member of the Men's Club and as a trustee for several years. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Edith Fleming; and five brothers, Hubert, Howard, Leo and Hobart Adams. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Bernice Bell Adams, of the home; two children, Ben Adams of Wilmington and Pamela Wilson and husband Allen of Cary; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Adams, of Ann Arbor, and a sister, Bessie Adams, of ston-Salem. The Adams family Winwill receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today, April 29, at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 30, at Longtown United Methodist Church with the Rev. Nathan Kilpatrick officiating. Mr. Adams will lie in state from 10:30 to 11 a.m.

James Monroe "Jim" Brown, 90, of Mount Airy, formerly of Pulaski, died Thursday, April 28, 2005, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. He was born in Mount Airy in 1915, and married Marguerite Morris in 1939. They celebrated their 66th anniversary in March. Before retiring in 1983, he was co-owner and manager of Blue Ridge Supply a wholesale grocery distributor in Pulaski, for more than 40 years.
After his retirement, he moved to Cana, where he lived until moving into Ridgecrest Retirement Community in Mount Airy in 2001. While living in Pulaski, he served as treasurer of First Baptist Church and treasurer of the Pulaski High School Band Boosters. He also helped found the SHARE program in Pulaski. He is survived by his wife, Marguerite Morris Brown, of Mount Airy; a daughter and son-in-law, Clara B. and William E.
Cox, of Blacksburg, three sons and two daughters-in-law, J. Morris and Phyllis Brown of Payson, Dennis E. and Kay Brown of Carrollton, and Joseph H. Brown of Montgomery County, five grandchildren, Kevin Brown of Rock Hill, S.C., Eric Brown of Raleigh, Wendy Cox Royston of Smithfield, Wesley Brown of Asheville, and Jamie Brown of Charlotte; a 'stepgranddaughter, Wendy Donnelly of Weare, N.H.; two great-granddaughters, Olivia Brown of Rock Hill and Emerson Brown of Raleigh; two stepgreatgrandsons, Cullen Donnelly and Konnor Beaudoin, both. of Weare; a brother, Glenn A.

BURNETTE Mr. Herman Thomas "Tom" Burnette, 75, of Winston-Salem and formerly of Charlotte died Wednesday, April 27, 2005, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. He was born Sept. 7, 1929, in Mecklenburg County and was the son of Lessie Mae Kisiah Burnette and W.L.
Burnette. He was associated with the city of Charlotte before moving to Winston-Salem, where he became co-owner and operator of Highway Auto Wrecker Service. He attended Wilson Grove Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Mr. Burnette was preceded in death by a son, James Douglas Burnette; a great -grandson, Alex Asbury; and four brothers, Robert, Martin, Louis and Zeb Burnette.

CALL WILKESBORO Mr. Everette "Clinton" Call, 68, of Cain Ridge Road, Wilkesboro, died Wednesday, April 27, 2005, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Mr. Call was born Dec. 21, 1936, in Wilkes County to Everette and Louise Brown Call.
He was retired from American Drew and was a member and deacon at Oakwoods Baptist Church. Mr. Call was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, where he served as a representative for North Carolina, Sovereign Grand Chaplain, and was a past Grandmaster of North Carolina. He was also a Gideon as well as a member of the Board of Directors of the Wilkes Crisis Pregnancy Center. Mr.
Call served in the U.S. Air Force and National Guard. A sister, Florene York, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Joan Lackey Call, of Wilkesboro; a daughter, Sara Stroh, and husband Joseph of Douglasville, a son, Marshall Call, and wife Lisa of Santa Rosa, two sisters, Betty Anderson of North Wilkesboro. and Virginia Byrd of State Road; two brothers, Conley Call of North Wilkesboro and Lawrence Call of Wilkesboro; a granddaughter, Meghan Call of Santa Rosa, and his mother-inlaw, Vivian Lackey of Wilkesboro.

DAVIS Michael G. "Mike" Davis, formerly of 236 Jackson Road, Mount Airy, departed this life Sunday, April 24, 2005. Mike was born Oct. 30, 1947, in Loudon, Tenn. Mike leaves behind his mother, Maxine Waller of Nashville, a sister, Kathy Dieterich, and a brother, Jeff Tilley, both of Tennessee; and a host of Goler family and friends.
Mike joined Goler Community Development Corp. on Nov. 11, 2003. He served as project manager for Goler Community Development Corp. until his untimely death.
Mike oversaw construction of the four units of town homes built on the Goler campus in 2004. He also served on the Development Committee for Goler Community Development Corp. Mike's work experience included travel all over the United States and abroad. To those that knew him, Mike was an ardent protector and groundskeeper of the Goler Heights Community. One could see Mike often walking the campus early in the morning and on weekends making sure that everything was in order.

After retiring, she worked for the Philadelphia school district as a teacher's aide. Emma returned to Winston-Salem in 1979 to be near her mother, Leila Funches; brother Lonzo; and their families. It was during this period that she joined the Greater Cleveland Avenue Christian Church where she was a faithful member for 20 years. She lived across the street from the church in Holland Homes and served ice cream to the neighborhood children. There she was known as the "Ice Cream Lady." Emma returned to live in her beloved Philadelphia in 2001.
It was her desire to spend her final years with her daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She entered into the joys of eternal rest on Sunday, April 24, 2005, at Mercy Suburban Hospital in Norristown, Pa. In addition to her parents, Emma was preceded in death by three brothers, Porter, Johnny and Lonzo Funches; and two great -grand- FUNCHES Ms. Emma Julia Funches was born July 24, 1918, in Bowman, S.C., to the late Perry and Leila MRS. Lois Marie Grant Harvey, affectionately known as Granny to her family, died Tuesday, April 26, 2005, at Forsyth Medical Center from lung cancer. She was born Oct. 23, 1932, in Scotland Neck to Albert and Ann Grant. On June 16, 1951, she married MRS. HARVEY Charles Owen Harvey, who survives of the home.

JOHNSON Mr. Charles Henry Johnson, 71, of Winston-Salem died Wednesday, April 27, 2005, at his residence.
Born in Oklahoma County, on March 23, 1934, he was the son of Robert and 1 Clara Williams Johnson. Charles was one of 10 siblings. He was educated in the Oklahoma City public-school system. He was baptized at the age of 12 at the Church of Christ in Oklahoma City. Charles moved to New Jersey in 1964.
He retired from Supermarkets General in Rahway, N.J., after 26 years. He was an avid bowler and loved to bowl 300s. Charles co-founded the Andy Ferguson Memorial Mixed League, formerly Supermarkets General (Pathmark). He was a member of International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Local No. 863.
Charles relocated to Winston -Salem in 2002, battling multiple lung diseases and chronic rheumatoid arthritis. Charles leaves to cherish memories of him his wife, Bette Johnson, of the home; four daughters; a stepdaughter; 11 grandchildren; three stepgrandchil-, dren; four great -grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. Mrs. Prevette was born Oct. 15, 1918, in Wilkes County to Richard and Joyce Smith Pardue. Mrs. Prevette worked at East Wilkes High School as a substitute teacher and in the cafeteria.
She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where she was a past president with WMU and a Sunday school teacher for many years. She was also a member of the Home Demonstration Club. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eli Prevette; a brother, Harold Pardue; and a son-in-law, Jim Weaver.
