Dixie Lee McClanahanDeel, age 82, of Max Meadows died Thursday, May 23, 2024.

She was born April6, 1942 in Buchanan County, daughter of the late James ArthurMcClanahan and Nora Stiltner McClanahan.

She was preceded indeath by her husband, Jerry Deel; sisters, Lucille "Lucy” Keen,Geraldine "Gerry” Cochran and Goldie Stiltler; her brother, James"Buck” McClanahan; step-daughter, Kimberly Edenfield.

Survivors includeher son and daughter-in-law, Josh and Jess Justus of Max Meadows;stepdaughter, Amber Deel Price of Richlands; son-in-law, DarrelEdenfield of Kite, Georgia; sister, Leona "Tiny” Thomas of Haysi;grandchildren, Jackson, Jillian, Jayden, Julianna and Jace; agreat-grandchild, Ezral and several nieces, nephews and many extendedfamily and friends.

Burial was at Mt.Valley Memorial Park Mausoleum, 32350 Riverside Drive, Big Rock.

Linda Anderson Doyle

Linda AndersonDoyle, 79, died Friday, May 24, 2024, at Senior Home Share,Wytheville.

Doyle was thedaughter of James Arlie and Mary Thelma Anderson.

She was a 1963graduate of Marion Senior High School. She was married to the lateRobert Allen "Bobby” Doyle and lived in Wytheville for 42 years.Working in Wytheville, she was employed by the United TelephoneCompany for 15 years and Humphrey Hotels in Silver Springs Marylandfor five years. Doyle moved back to Marion in 2014 and becameemployed by the District Three for six years, a position which shefound most rewarding. She was a member of the East End Baptist Churchand enjoyed teaching womens class while attending as well asattending Freedom Tabernacle Baptist Church. She was an avidsupporter and enthusiast for the American Society for the Preventionof Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA.) She enjoyed her yard work, flowerbeds, piano and reading.

Her philosophy inlife was work hard, love God and family and make friends along theway would make for a great journey.

In addition to herparents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Arlie H.Anderson, John C, Anderson and Robert M. Anderson; sisters, DorothyStevenson and Shirley Helton; very special nephew, Roger Anderson.

Doyle is survived byher brother Neal Anderson (Minnie Ann) of Marion, Va.; several niecesand nephews; special friends, Jean Brooks and Becky Williams.

The family willreceive friends, Friday, May 31, from 11 a.m. until noon at Fraziers’Seaver-Brown Chapel. Services will begin at noon with the Rev. MikeSage officiating. Entombment will follow in Rose Lawn Mausoleum, 4410Lee Highway, Marion.

Gladys DillowEpperson, 76, of Wytheville died Thursday, May 23, 2024.

She was the daughterof the late Estel A. and Myrtle Pauley Dillow she was preceded indeath her son, Charles Epperson.

Epperson is survivedby her sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Susan Epperson of MaxMeadows, Billy and Kristin Epperson of Wytheville, Marvin "Dougie”and Brooke Cox of Pulaski; sisters and brothers-in-law, Brenda andAndy Cuff of Bland, Connie and Mike DeWilde of Bland and DebbieBlankenship of Wytheville; brother, Donnie Ray Dillow of Bland; sevengrandchildren; a great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lewis Randolph"Dotchie” Grubb

Lewis Randolph"Dotchie” Grubb, 75, died Friday, May 24, 2024, at his home inCrockett.

Grubb was born inWytheville on Feb. 5, 1949, to Charlie Frank and Hallie Sharpe Grubb.

A Rural Retreat HighSchool graduate, he served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1969 to1971. In 1974, he received his AAS Degree, but put his pursuit of abachelor’s degree on hold to care for his father.

After his father’sdeath, Grubb and his brother Walter Robert "Dubby R” Grubbpurchased the family farm and home place in Greasy Creek and raisedbeef cattle there. He wed Barbara Jo "Bobbie” Burton in 1979 andover the next six years they welcomed their three children andsettled in the home in Crockett where he would spend the rest of hislife.

He began working asa lineman at Radford Arsenal in the mid 1980’s and spent the nexttwo decades raising his family and farming or attending hischildren’s many ball games after work.

Upon retiring in2012, Grubb enjoyed genealogy and local history, traveling andplaying golf. A lifelong baseball fan, he attended many local gamesof interest and traveled to Yankee Stadium and Florida for springtraining.

Although heregretted that his declining health prevented him from traveling morein retirement, Grubb became a grandfather in 2016, and nothingbrought him more joy in his final years than his visits with hisgrandchildren.

Grubb was precededin death by his parents, his siblings Ralph Lee Grubb, Walter Robert"Dubby R” Grubb, Charles Douglas Grubb, and Doris GrubbCrittenden.

He is survived byhis sister Irene Grubb Jones; his sisters-in-law Rebecca WohlfordGrubb and Norma Catron Grubb; the mother of his children Barbara Jo"Bobbie” Burton Grubb; children Amy Denise Grubb Rowe (Larry Jr.,Aiden, Moriah), Joseph Mark Grubb, and Charles Edward Grubb (Cara);grandchildren Grace Mae Rowe, Caimin Lewis Grubb and Calina JeanGrubb; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family willreceive visitors from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29, at GrubbFuneral Home, 215 South 6th Street, Wytheville, with a service tofollow. The graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday,May 30, at Berea Christian Church Cemetery, 996 Berea Road,Wytheville. The family asks that memorial donations be made to theBerea Cemetery Fund, The Relay For Life or a charitable cause of yourchoice. Lowell KermitHensley, 89, died May 26, 2024, at the Johnson City Medical Center.

He was born on May21,1935 in Whitetop to the late Kenneth and Pearl Hensley. Hensleywas also preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Farmer Hensley.

Hensley was a maneveryone loved. He always greeted people with a big smile and warmgrin, making a lasting impression on many lives. Hensley lovedfishing and cherished his family. He continued fishing right up untilhe passed away.

Survivors include two sons, Rick Barnett Hensley and David Allen Hensley;daughter-in-law, Wanda Hensley; grandchildren, Ashley Ritter,Brittney Dillon; and great-grandchildren, Alden Elizabeth, Adia Juneand Avery Joseph.

Debra ChristineLyons, 71, of Ivanhoe died Saturday, May 25, 2024.

She was born inPulaski on Dec. 5, 1952 to the late George L. Lyons and Dorothy LeePorter Lyons. She was also preceded in death by her sister SharonGroseclose, brother-in-law Danny Groseclose and nephew LandonSimmerman.

She is survived bybrothers Robert and Pam Lyons of Max Meadows, Bill and Janet Lyons ofRural Retreat; nieces and nephews Scott and Sabrinia Lyons, Nicoleand Bobby Rakes, Michelle and Rob Underwood, Amy and Mike Parkinson,Jeff and Kayla Lyons; seven great-nephews; four great-nieces; onegreat-great-nephew; and a host of extended family and friends.

Graveside servicewill be held Friday, May 31, at 2 p.m. at the Odd Fellows Cemetery inIvanhoe with the Rev. Mike Ingo officiating. Inurnment will follow.

Larry Perkins

Larry Perkins, 69,died Saturday, May 25, 2024.

Perkins was anoutdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and just standingaround a campfire. Larry was born in Buchanan County and graduatedfrom Council High School. He served in the United States Army and wasa coal miner working for Consol Energy for 10 years. Perkins had madelots of friends over the years and never met a stranger. He could getalong with anyone and was straight forward telling you what hethought. He will be missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded indeath by his parents, Clyde and Vicey Perkins; sisters, Donna JeanPerkins (Infant), Katherine Horne and Karen Gibson; grandparents,Louisa and Rufus O’quinn.

Perkins is survivedby his wife of 47 years Patsy Perkins of Rural Retreat; sons BrettPerkins and James Aaron (Kathy Shupe), both of Rural Retreat; sistersEaster Deel of Council, Lourine Breeding (Billy) of Paintsville,Kentucky, and Mary Breeding of Council; and one special grandchild,Landon Aaron Perkins of Marion.
