History
Dyersburg, Tennessee, was originally established as a small settlement in the late 1820s. It is named after Colonel Joel H. Dyer, who was responsible for surveying and plotting out the town. The area was primarily inhabited by Native American tribes, including the Chickasaw and the Cherokee, prior to European settlement.
The town started to grow as a result of its location on the Forked Deer River, which provided easy access for trade and transportation.
